Poodle (Standard) (medium coat) Dog

SNPR Jack the Dog needs a home

THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING FOR ANOTHER RESCUE, for more information contact Special Needs Poodle Rescue at [email protected]  PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL IGGY PALACE OR YOU WILL NOT GET A RESPONSE!

SNPR Jack is a 5 year old white neutered male Standard Poodle.  He was surrendered with another Standard Poodle (who has since been adopted out) in December 2016 when his owner's health failed and she realized she had more dogs then she could properly care for.  He hadn't seen a vet in several years, had severe ear infections,  badly in need of a dental, and severe matting.   He was also very under socialized, and has taken some work to acclimate to his foster home.  His previous owner loved him, but she knew she was in over her head and needed help getting the number of dogs in her home down to a more manageable number.

Now 6 weeks later Jack is a new dog!  He's really come out of his shell, he's an active boy that LOVES to play play play, but is more dog centered them people centered.  He warms up and can be a very sweet boy, but it takes him a little while to give people his full trust.  But with other dogs he'll play all day long if he can!  He's full of life!  His only special need is that he needs a home that understands more timid dogs and can help him blossom to his full potential!  He has come SOOO far in this time here, but we know he will only get better with the right forever home!

Jack has been fully vetted, his ear issues have been cleared up (he had yeast infections in both ears, really bad in one ear, which the vet felt was likely secondary to food sensitivities, we changed him onto a white fish based food that he's done amazingly well on, and with regular cleaning and some ear meds for several weeks, his ears have cleared up nicely!), he's neutered, just had a full dental done, and was just groomed 01/19 (and will continue to be groomed every 4 - 6 week as long as he remains in rescue!).  He is current on his vaccines, microchipped, knows his basic obedience commands, all he needs now is a home to call his own!

REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ADOPTION

- Fenced yard with 6' or higher fence, Jack is timid and doesn't understand what's expected of him when he is taken out on leash, he NEEDS to have a fenced area available where he can run around and relieve himself.

- No cats or small fuzzy animals, Jack is higher prey drive and does NOT do well with small animals he may see as prey, but does well with smaller dogs.

- No small children, he's an active larger boy who doesn't know his size and could easily knock over or injure a small child without meaning to.

Must be willing and able to drive to Northern Utah for an in person meet and greet with any dogs in the home prior to adoption being finalized.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  We do not transport or ship our rescue dogs for anyone for any reason.

- Must have another well socialized dog of similar size.  Jack gets alot of confidence and security from having another dog his size around.

- Must be willing to agree to never use pain or force based training methods (shock collars, prong collars, E-collars, etc).  Jack is a sensitive boy and these force based training methods could easily cause him to shut down permanently.  He need a home that knows or is willing to learn how to use positive

reinforcement based methods to work WITH him to teach him what's expected of him.

If you are interested in giving Jack a forever home, please e-mail us at [email protected] for an adoption application.  Home visits and reference checks are required prior to scheduling a meet and greet with the dog.  An in person meet and greet with all dogs currently in the home is required prior to finalizing the adoption to insure all dogs in the home are compatible.  Jack's adoption fee is $500 to help offset some of the expenses of getting him ready for his forever home.
